What are your strengths in surviving in modern society? Multimedia artist Rhea Ewing reflects upon theirs in the exhibit “Seven Strengths” at Arts + Literature Laboratory, 2021 Winnebago St. (The artist uses the pronouns they/them/theirs.)

“Seven Strengths” explores seven concepts that Ewing feels are crucial to surviving as a queer person in modern society. In what Ewing calls “a conversation between myself and the natural world,” the artist studies and observes the different ways it and its creatures coexist and thrive under pressure. The artwork in the exhibit visualizes the connections that Ewing finds between their own tools for survival and the evolutionary adaptations of plants and animals. Read more
